The art of Tui-Na works on your soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, tendons, sinews, joint capsules, fascia, cartilage, subcutaneous tissues) and pressure points using manual manipulations.Tui-Na is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) from China. In China, it is considered as one form of medical solution, along with acupuncture and herbology. The word tui-na stands for “push” and “grasp”, a key description of the principles behind the technique. Tui-Na is further divided into acupressure points manipulations and bone-setting realignment techniques. (Tui-Na practitioners in the U.S. do not practice bone-setting techniques.) Tui-Na manipulation of pressure points is different from acupuncture, which uses needles to stimulate pressure points in your body. There are 361 pressure points in your body and my Tui-Na method reaches over 130 major pressure points. Acupressure is the physical form of the science of acupuncture.
Tui-Na practitioners manipulate acupressure points along various meridian channels to balance the Qi flow in your body. Benefits include but not limited to rejuvenating the body and relieving stress, body tension, foot pain, backaches, shoulder pain, neck aches, insomnia, headaches, or fatigue. Although this is a common practice in China, only in recent years has modern medicine looked into as an alternative healing method. The client is fully clothed during the session. Medical conditions such as frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, Bell Palsy, tennis elbow, golfer elbow, plantar fasciitis can benefit from tui-na therapy
Tui-Na practitioners work pre-dominantly with the 12 meridians of Tendino-Muscular Channel: Lung (LU), Large Intestine (LI), Stomach (ST), Spleen (SP), Heart (HT), Small Intestine (SI), Bladder (BL), Kidney (KD), Pericardium (PC), San Jiao (SJ), Gall Bladder (GB), and Liver (LIV). Additional channels include the Conception Vessel (kCV/Ren) and Governing Vessel (GV/DU).
Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.
Pregnancy Massage is a style of bodywork designed specifically for pregnant women. Pregnancy is a time when a woman's body endures tremendous stress due to dramatic physical and emotional changes. Using various techniques specially developed for the expecting mother, Pregnancy Massage helps release the pain and discomfort experienced throughout pregnancy. The benefits are profound, including emotional support, the relief of joint pain due to extra weight and postural imbalance, and improved breathing and relaxation.
Myofascial release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalance the entire body. It does this by using massage techniques to stretch the fascia and release the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles and bones. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects and covers all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Direct myofascial release is sometimes known as deep tissue work. Indirect release applies light pressure and gently stretches the fascia; this allows for increased blood circulation and relief from pain.
Hot Stone Therapy is a style of massage where heated stones are placed at specific sites on your body to deepen relaxation and promote circulation in your muscles. Muscles that are heated with these stones release tension and stress much more deeply and quickly than with a traditional massage. The overall experience is very relaxing, nurturing, and rejuvenating.
Tui-Na can be performed on acupressure table or chair. Whereas the acupressure table will allow Tui-Na practitioner to work on the body from all sides and directions, the acupressure chair is limited to the posterior part of the body, full arm, and partial leg access. It is performed with clothing with a maximum duration of 30 minutes. Benefits include but not limited to rejuvenating the body and relieving stress, body tension, foot pain, backaches, shoulder pain, neck aches, insomnia, headaches, or fatigue. In addition to the usual health benefits of massage, another benefit of chair massage is that it is done over the clothing. With seated massage, you can avoid the discomfort and awkwardness that you may feel in disrobing for a traditional massage. Also, chair massage sessions are usually shorter than traditional massage, making it convenient enough to fit into your busy schedule.
Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.
